Attention members:
I have tried to prevent forum spam on these forums and to remove users that appear to be intending to use the forums to spam other members. Recently there has been a new method employed by these spammers that involve using the Private Message (PM) system. I have banned and deleted the account of one that attempted to start a spam campaign and a few others that utilized similar IP and email addresses. I hope no one has been affected by them. Please let me know if you ever receive anything that you suspect as spam or a hoax.
You might have received a PM in a format similar to this:
You have just been sent a personal message by ForumTeam on Mud Duck Aviation Forums.
IMPORTANT: Remember, this is just a notification. Please do not reply to this email.
The message they sent you was:
Dear, ******!
A virus alert was noticed on your computer.
We highly recommend you to check your computer and perform online virus check at our site immediately: [link removed].
----------------------------------------------------
Forum Administration www.mudduckaviation.com. These are fake, and will most likely try to infect you with a virus and/or steal your information. Do not click on any links contained therein.
"Lady_Admin" "Manninblack" and "ForumTeam" are well-known forum bots, but others may appear too.
This website cannot find out if there is a virus on your computer. Therefore, nobody will ever contact you telling you run an anti-virus program from a certain website.
If there is any suspicion on your part that a PM, a post, or a thread is phishing or spam, you're welcome to post about it in this thread (do NOT post actual links from PMs!), or you can contact me about it.
Some things that should make you suspicious:
The PM might pretend to be from a site administrator or from a moderator. Currently, the site administrator is "Mud Duck Aviation", and I'm the only moderator. If it's not from me, it's definetely fake.
The messages might have weird wording, strange symbols, and random letters. These usually point to spam - they use this to get around filters.
If the member registered on the same day, you should be suspicious as well.
Have a nice day,
Greg
