IM Support

For modelers who use instant messengers such as AOL Instant Messenger (AIM), MSN Messenger, YAHOO Messenger, and IRQ; I have set up accounts with all of these Instant Messengers (IM's) and loaded Pidgin so I can run all at once to be available to users of any one of them.

IM Users
So if you already have an IM and have a question for me add my user name (list below) to your buddy list and see if I'm on or see when I come on or active again, and I will try to address your questions live.
 I am currently supporting the list of IM's below, but if you belong to a different one, leave a response on this thread and I will add your IM to my list (if Pidgin supports it).

Never Used an IM Before?
If you do not have an IM already or never used one, they are very easy to intall and set up, and there are many to choose from. Find out if any of your friends use one and install the same one so you can chat with them whenever your all online at the same times.  If you are looking for a recommendation I was using MSN exclusively prior to setting up the multiple account to accommodate everyone.

Just Google "instant messenger" and the most popular ones should come up at the top of the results and then the one you choose should walk you through the installation and set up very easily.  Probably the hardest thing is finding a screen-name/user-name that hasn't been taken already and is easy to remember or explain to friends.  If you would like to set one up and need help or have questions feel free to post a reply to this thread.

An IM will let you know if a person on your friends list is "logged-in", they may or may not be actually by the computer at the time, but you can send them a message and see if they respond right away.  It is a very popular method of communication these days that is free and instant (if both parties are online).

These forums have a user profile that you can add your IM username to if you would like other modelers to add you to their friends list and be able to share information about your "Ducks" live as opposed to using these forums and waiting for replies.

What's Pidgin?

I mentioned earlier that I am using this program. Pidgin is a free application that allows you to have multiple IM accounts from the same or different IM services and places them all in one window as if you only were using one.  This way you do not have to log in to multiple different IM's and have multiple windows open to be online with all the different people you would like to chat with live.  You may visit other forums like RCUniverse, RCGroups, Flying Giants, etc., and have acquaintances in them but they all use different IM's, you can do it all with just one application.
