NEAT Fair 2009
« on: September 01, 2009, 04:38:52 PM »

Mud Duck Aviation will once again be attending the NEAT Fair!

This is our second year attending and this year we will be bringing more than just plans with us!

We are donating a Mud Duck Sport Kit to the pilots raffle this year as well!

We will also bring a bunch of kits and semi-kits with us as well as a limited supply of new design T-shirts.  So if you were planning on attending come swing by our spot on the right end of the flightline (facing the flightline)which is the opposite end as last year.

!!!  NOTICE  !!!            !!!  NOTICE  !!!            !!!  NOTICE  !!!
Anyone who may be looking to contact us or place an order from September 16th until September 20th please note:

We will be at the NEAT Fair in Shinopple, NY which is in the Catskill's.  The campground the event is held in is a valley with absolutely no cellular reception so we will be unable to check messages or respond to questions.  If you are looking to place an order you can do so normally and we will pack and ship your order when we return on the 21st.

If you are planing on attending the event, stop by the right end (looking at the flightline) of the field near the park flyer flightline and say hello.

Well another NEAT Fair under our belt!

Last year we attended with a bunch of plans and some hardware a wheel kits to sell, and this year we brought along a bunch of kits as well!

Last year we were hampered by electrical problems and a bad ESC and were unable to get the Mud Duck Sport up for a demonstration flight.  This year I we flew the Sport on Saturday when things slowed down and had an opportunity to get to the flightline and we even flew the Sport and our new Electric CricKit in the Sunday Noon Demo's!

We're finally getting the hang of the vendor role at the NEAT Fair and will be even more prepared for 2010.  I promised myself to build more demo planes and to enlist more help to get our planes in the air more often at the show next year.

The thought of some CricKit streamer combat has already been mentioned before we left NEAT.

Hey David,

No sorry, I did not get any video and very little photo's.  I was stuck in my vendor spot most of the weekend and since I only had enough room to bring my electric Sport (the "warbird" scheme), I figured there were enough photos of that around already.  I responded to this thread yesterday and accidentally hit the back button which deleted everything so I finally got around to responding again.

I did take the following pictures on Sunday morning on my way into the campground:

It was a real serene landscape...  A handfull of flyers already up and flying... the vendors just waking up getting some breakfast in their bellies... the low hanging clouds in the valley starting to disipate.

I got a picture of my daughter with her haul from her first ever "candy drop":

Sunday a few full-scale light planes flew in and my wife got a few shots of my daughter in (with the owners permission) and near the Piper J-3 Cub:

That had to be nice.  I'm trying to remember what those tall things in the back ground are called   Huh

We don't have those in central FL....lol.  Well, we do have some 'hills' near Clearmont,FL and north of there. People from 'up north' probably wouldn't even notice them.

The 'Monster Planes' fly in is coming up in a few weeks. I wonder if Mr Tiano would let a 15' Mud Duck fly too ?  Hmmmmmmm ?   Grin

I was just planning out a 17'3" (almost 200%) version the other night (the biggest I could make using single sheets of 4x8 material for the wings)!  I was thinking I needed something that would attract even more attention that a standard Mud Duck if I decide to take a trip to Joe Nall this year.

RCGroups has a few pictures of the Ducks and my spot in the following thread:

I would probably use one of my Zenoah G-62's, but I was also considering a modular power "sleeve" so I can also use an electric set-up for electric events.  The sleve would slide onto the motor mount and into the fuselage and include the engine, tank, throttle servo, ignition kill for the gasoline sleeve and for the electric sleeve the motor, batteries, and ESC.

I have a big 5000 series AXI that may be able to pull it off.

This is a lower priority build, but I will definitely take video and post the build when I get to it.  I have to get a couple more other Ducks built on film so I have new, clearer and updated building videos to post.

Hi Greg ,Will your sleeve be similar to Leo's (puchmanleeny) design of his spar in "Fuddlow" ? That's a great idea, being able to switch power sources. Catch the 'eye' of the 'gasser guys' and the 'sparky guys'.
I guess I should stop asking questions....it sounds like you got lots to do. Thank goodness there's 28 hours in a day !  Grin
Looking forward to the videos on the builds. Take care Greg.

Actually I hadn't considered Leo's "spar", I was thinking something like a "tray"that slipped over a plate that was installed where the existing motor mount is, but I will have to look closer at Leo's to see if it would make more sense.

28 Hours!  I need at least 40 (or quit my day job) Roll Eyes

I think I see what your saying about a tray, it could be attached to the rails that normally hold the plate/tray for the motor.
I think I remember a company that used to sell airplanes, they advertised about being able to remove the engine, fuel tank and (maybe) the throttle servo and sliding it into another aircraft. I believe they had a 'tray' set up.
You could have the Gasser with it's throttle servo on a plate. Have the gas tank back over the CG,( the carb has a pump)...leaving it in place all the time. Just plug the lines when not being used. The Battery pack for the 'receiver' could also stay all the time for 'balance'.
Then the AXI and it's ESC could be fixed to another plate. The leads to your battery pack (for the motor) could be a little longer, to get them over/near the CG too.
LOL....it's not like you wont have room inside! Even enough room for some rubber duckies to drop out the bottom with parachutes. That would get people talking !
