Crickit downthrust
« on: November 21, 2008, 12:17:18 PM »

I'm prereading my instructions, as all mudduckers should do, and noticed my Crickit instructions mention that an "additional" amount of 8 degrees downthrust should be used to prevent up during throttle add. Since 3 degrees is built into the original, the total downthrust recommended appears to be 11 degrees. Is this correct ?

Hi Richard,

Yes, amazingly enough, 11 degrees is the downthrust recommended along with the removal of the reflex portion of the wing to accommodate a more stable flying CricKit.  Like its larger cousins, the CricKit generated tons of lift, but unlike the others, the CricKit is so light that the induced drag isn't counteracted by a heavy mass and the results is a very severe "ballooning" effect when you add throttle and the only way to counteract it without mixing throttle and elevator substantially is the major downthrust.
